Where can I use H&C®
products?
You can use H&C® Concrete
Coatings on most cement-based surfaces, such as driveways, patios,
pool decks, sidewalks, walkways, garage floors, retaining walls,
foundations and commercial buildings.
Do I have to do anything to my surface before
I apply an H&C® coating?
Absolutely. Surface preparation is critical to a successful job
and we make it simple for you by providing easy-to-follow instructions.
It's important that the surface is clean, free from dirt, grease,
mold and mildew. When coating a bare, cured horizontal surface (i.e.,
driveway, garage floor, patio) you must etch the surface prior to
application of a coating. We also make it convenient for you to
prepare your surface by offering the products that are needed.
How can I tell if my surface had a clear sealer applied in the past?
To see if a clear sealer was applied to a surface in the past, test the surface by sprinkling either muriatic or phosphoric acid, which you can find at your local home improvement store, on the surface. The acid will bubble on contact. If it continues to bubble, it's likely that the surface is not sealed. If the acid does not bubble after initial contact, that is an indication that the surface is sealed.
What is the difference between H&C®
Silicone Acrylic Concrete Sealer and H&C®
Shield PlusTM Ultra Concrete
Stain?
H&C® Silicone Acrylic
Concrete Sealer is a waterproofing sealer and is our most durable,
solvent-based coating for protecting exterior concrete/masonry surfaces
like driveways, pool decks, patios, walkways, steps, garage floors
and retaining walls. H&C®
Shield PlusTM Ultra Concrete
Stain is a water-based, high-grade acrylic coating that is excellent
for protecting interior concrete/masonry surfaces like basements,
laundry rooms and utility rooms. It is VOC compliant in all 50 states
and can also be used on exterior surfaces like asphalt and previously
painted surfaces (see package label for further details). Both products
are available in a variety of ready-to-use and tintable colors.
Does H&C have a coating for asphalt?
Yes. H&C® Shield Plus
Ultra Concrete Stain is excellent for asphalt driveways.
My concrete was freshly poured-can I apply an
H&C® coating immediately?
No. New concrete has to cure for a minimum of 45 days before applying
any H&C® coating. The
surface must also have a pH balance between 6 and 10 units. In most
cases, waiting 45 days is enough to allow the pH level to reach
the acceptable level.
How soon after I use H&C on my garage floor
can I park my car on it?
After using either H&C®
Silicone Acrylic Concrete Sealer or H&C®
Shield PlusTM Ultra Concrete
Stain, the surface should cure for 72-96 hours.
My pool deck is made of set epoxy stone. What
product should I use?
H&C®
Chatahoochee Sealer is specifically designed for set epoxy stone
and mortar set stone.
What is the best way to waterproof my basement
walls?
H&C®
Block ShieldTM Masonry Waterproofer
is a water-based, textured finish that is designed specifically
for porous masonry surfaces like basement walls.
I have a concrete ramp that becomes slippery
when wet. Is there a product I can use to make it safer?
Yes. H&C®
SharkGripTM is a slip resistant
additive that can be added to H&C®
Sealers or Stains.
