Recommended for interior and exterior use, on both horizontal and vertical surfaces, the stain can be applied on new or even previously painted surfaces. While fighting the effects of time and climate changes, the water based stain also beautifies your home at a fraction of what it would cost to replace existing concrete surfaces. Moreover, you can choose from 80 available stain colors that can help you create a distinctive, unique appearance inside or outdoors.
Once you’ve chosen your preferred stain color, its easy DIY application can be completed in the following six, simple steps:
STEP ONE – CLEANING THE AREA
· Clear the area to be stained. Remove oil and grease spots with H&C De-Greaser. Rinse thoroughly.
STEP TWO – ETCHING THE AREA
· In a plastic sprinkling can, combine one part H&C Cleaner & Etcher with two parts water. Sprinkle evenly on the concrete and agitate with a stiff broom until foaming stops. Rinse well and allow to dry completely. If another etching product is used follow package directions carefully.
STEP THREE – INSPECTING THE AREA
· Inspect surface to ensure that cleaning and etching were successful. Surface should feel like 120 grit sandpaper. Repeat step two if necessary. Wait 24 hours before applying stain.
STEP FOUR – APPLYING THE STAIN
· Brush or roll on first coat. (1/4” to 3/8” nap quality roller cover is recommended.)

STEP FIVE – APPLYING A SECOND COAT
· Refer to the label directions for drying time to recoat. Trim exposed side edges for a professional look. Inclined areas can be textured by adding Sharkgrip™ Slip-Resistant Additive to the final coat.
STEP SIX – ALLOWING THE STAIN TO DRY
· The surface will be ready to enjoy after one hour for light foot traffic, and vehicle and heavy traffic after 72 to 96 hours. Please refer to product labels for more specific instructions.
Your new concrete creation will require some maintenance to keep it looking its very best. If used outside, continued weathering can make concrete colors appear faded, so make sure you re-seal your colored or stenciled concrete every two to five years after the initial application. Following these tips will help to ensure you can enjoy your concrete artwork for years to come!
